I mentioned on another thread some time ago that, in the early '70s, Brother Knorr forbade bell bottoms (in your room was all right). My roommate was brazen and wore them to the factory. He got lots of stares.

Even flares were frowned upon. So much frowning, the face develops a permanent scowl. So sad, so sad . . .

i was reading in another forum, that a letter to the elders instructed them to speak to anybody who persists in wearing tight pants.

if changes don't happen then the instructions are to disqualify him from being a publisher but it won't be announced to the congregation.

i am am curious to see if this letter will surface.

Well, if John were not so scantily clothed . . . Oh, I just realized that Jesus has no collar. How would he appropriate himself the requisite tie?

the 'current events' editing staff of this paper likely has no idea what their promoting.

Three candles have been burning bright, bright and true as

As a penetrating fog new to a once lively mind has settled in and
dampened my soul, I glance the second scarlet torch; it goes dead.

Anxious -- terrified -- that changes swift and sure are invading the land I
do love, I shield my eyes in fear from the third and last before it, too, bids
adieu to a darkening room . . . yet, I sense it blazes all the more merrily while
vision dims and a stiff cold wind from a broken pane intones my night has come.

i bought a nearly new 7-speed bicycle at a yard sale for $30 last weekend and took it out this morning on our paved local bicycle/walking trail.

the last time i rode was in my early- to mid- twenties when i used a bicycle to get to and from the kh for my pioneer service.

I live in the foothills of northern California, USA. Tortuous, narrow roads -- scary -- yet bicyclists are everywhere, particularly those training for major events. Sad to say, there've been fatalities. I drive to a safe place, that one mentioned earlier.

The smug arrogance of "having the truth".

has anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.

perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all,they will be destroyed right?.

I believe it's because so many Scriptures were applied to us collectively and congregationally: we are theatrical spectacle to men and angels; the other sheep have a privileged relationship with the anointed remnant; the angels are given a watch over us; he who touches His people touches the eyeball of Jehovah; etc.

Because I knew so many of the anointed, whom I cherished, I felt Jehovah had a special interest in me. Was I arrogant and "better" than worldlings? No, but I honestly felt Jehovah selected me to lead out of darkness the people whose paths crossed mine. I still wonder about prayers answered regarding my ministry.

I feel quite insignificant now . . .
